Liverpool transfer news: Lucas Leiva to Lazio, Mamadou Sakho, Lazar Markovic excluded from squad

LIVERPOOL midfielder Lucas Leiva has arrived in Rome and is
expected to complete a £5m move to Lazio on Monday.

Lucas is Liverpool’s longest serving current player and was
signed by the club by former manager Rafa Benitez in a £5m deal
from Gremio more than a decade ago.

He made 31 appearances in all competitions last season but was
largely deployed as a makeshift centre-back by manager Jurgen

The 30-year-old played no part in Liverpool’s
pre-season friendly with Wigan on Friday after the club agreed
a £5m fee with Lazio.

According to Sky in Italy, Lucas will undergo a medical on
Monday before finalising his move to Lazio, who finished fifth
in Serie A last season.

Lucas has racked up 247 appearances in 10 seasons at Liverpool,
scoring once and contributing 14 assists.

Meanwhile, Mamadou Sakho and Lazar Markovic have not been
selected in Liverpool’s 25-man squad for the tour to Hong Kong.

Sakho and Markovic both went out on loan last season and have
been linked with permanent moves away from Anfield during the
summer transfer window.

Sadio Mane, who was unavailable for the final stages of last
season after undergoing knee surgery, misses out as he
continues his rehabilitation.

Most of last season’s first-team squad, including club captain
Jordan Henderson, who last played in February, have travelled
to Hong Kong where Liverpool face Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

New signings Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke were also both
included as well as youngsters Ben Woodburn, Trent
Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Marko Grujic.

There were also spots for Jon Flanagan, Ryan Kent and Danny
Ward, who spent last season on loan at Burnley, Barnsley and
Huddersfield respectively.
